A BUTCHER and his wife have told TV show Crimewatch how their business was “devastated” and their wedding anniversary ruined by a £17,000 burglary at their shop.

John and Margaret Hunter, of Westgate Butchers, appeared on BBC1’s Crimewatch Roadshow Live from Morecambe’s Midland Hotel on Monday morning.

Burglars broke into their Westgate shop during the night of April 16 and stole meat and heavy duty butchering equipment.

Mr Hunter had finished work that day to take his wife out for a meal to celebrate their anniversary.

He told Crimewatch reporter Miriam O’Reilly: “I’m running at a bare minimum at the moment.

“It’s had a devastating effect on the business.”

Morecambe chief of police Insp Dave Vickers, who also appeared on the show, said: “It’s going to have taken a number of people to move this equipment.”

Mr Hunter is offering a reward to anyone with information leading to the return of the equipment.
