THE woman who brought some of the biggest names in entertainment to the resort is retiring.
Former circus performer Mary Lucas is stepping down as manager of The Platform having been with the theatre since its inception.
Her tenure, first as assistant manager when it opened 15 years ago and then as manager for the past seven years, has seen the likes of Alan Carr, John Bishop and Jason Manford take to the stage.
Mary, who leaves her post at the end of the month, said: “This job isn’t like any other job within the city council. It’s unique.
“It’s more of a vocation than a job.
“You’re answering the phone to big famous celebrities on one hand, and sorting a leak on the other. I’m dealing with all aspects of the theatre.”
“It takes up a lot of your time, it’s not a nine to five job.
“It’s weekends, evening and you’re on call. It’s a treadmill, after one show you move straight on to the next and you can have three shows a week.
“So when I hit the golden 60 I decided to call it a day.”
