DWINDLING crowds at the Globe Arena are becoming a headache for directors at Morecambe Football Club, which has just revealed a £635,000 annual loss.
The chief executive of the Shrimps admitted that recent attendances at the £12m Westgate stadium were “well below budget” as fans have stayed away, some blaming the team’s recent indifferent form.
Rod Taylor said the 1,246 who came to the Dagenham and Redbridge match on February 28 was a “disappointing” number.
This followed an attendance of 1,316 for the visit of Macclesfield on February 14, less than half the 2,700 figure quoted by chairman Peter McGuigan as a target in May 2011.
Meanwhile the club’s accounts for last season, published this week, paint a rosier picture.
