More than 1,000 properties affected by powercut in Lancaster

More than one thousand properties have been left without electricity following a power cut in Lancaster, says Electricity North West.

Around 1,375 homes and businesses in the LA1 and LA2 areas are said to be without power in the incident which was reported at around 4.30am on Friday.

Lancaster University is said to have been affected and is asking staff who are not responsible for face to face teaching or student services to work from home today.

A spokesman for the university tweeted: "There is currently no power to our Lancaster campus due to issues beyond our control. Electricity North West is working to restore power.

"Unless you are responsible for face to face teaching, student services or are asked to come in by your line manager, please work at home at present."

Electricity North West engineers are at the scene.

According to the Electricity North West website, power is expected to be restored by 2pm.
