Broken pipe spews water all over Victoria Street in Morecambe

Water was left gushing all over a Morecambe street after a pipe was clipped by contractors doing roadworks.

Reader Keith Heyworth snapped the partially flooded Victoria Street in the town on Wednesday, April 5.

A spokesman for Lancaster City Council said: “The contractor clipped a service connection and broke it, where two pipes join together with the service.

“This happened in the late afternoon on Wednesday and United Utilities came out to fix it.

“The water was back on during the early evening, although there were some effects to supply.

“There was no additional cost to the council as the contractor bore the cost.”

Connecting Victoria Street is a £600,000 project in the heart of the town centre linking the main streets to the promenade.

The aim is to better connect the town centre and seafront, increase footfall and benefit business and trading as part of implementation of the Morecambe Area Action Plan.

The work is due for completion in the summer.
