Although the Morecambe auditions will not be televised, anyone who catches the eye might make it through to face Simon Cowell and the celebrity judging panel on next year’s show.

Britain’s Got Talent (BGT) is coming to Morecambe thanks to the success of the town’s carnival.

TV executives contacted David Brayshaw, chairman of Morecambe Carnival Committee, after reading about the event on the internet.

Alesha Dixon, a judge on BGT, performed at this year’s carnival.

“Britain’s Got Talent wanted to come to the North West and they were looking for places they hadn’t been
before,” said Mr Brayshaw.

“They ‘Googled’ to see what was happening in Morecambe and one of the first things that came up was the carnival.

“They saw we had Alesha this year and they got my mobile number off the website.

“When I got the phone call from ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ I thought it was somebody taking the Michael. So I rang them back and it was indeed Thames TV!

“It’s very exciting they are coming up here.”

The auditions will start at 5.30pm.

Anyone interested in taking part can go onto the Morecambe Carnival website www.morecambecarnival.org and complete a form registering an interest. Talent scouts are looking for outstanding or out of the ordinary acts who they will then invite to further auditions.
