Bright future for Heysham Port ferry firm

Heysham based Seatruck Ferries are the first company to sign up to the Lancaster District Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Membership scheme.

Lancaster Chamber Ambassadors are key influential individuals and organisations who share the values that drive the local economy and chamber forward.

Seatruck Ferries is the only dedicated freight ferry company on the Irish Sea, and is set to greatly benefit from the opening of the new Heysham Link Road in the autumn.

“We are proud to be members of the Chamber and proud to be a Chamber Ambassador. The Link Road has been a long time coming but I really believe it will transform the area’s economic prospects as freight companies realises there is a serious ports player now in Lancashire.

“Previously, logistics and freight companies have tended to favour Cairnryan in Scotland or Holyhead in Wales but the new road throws those economics on its head.

“It will be quicker and more economical now for most companies in the Midlands and north of England to ship their freight through Heysham.”

Daniel Mulhall, the ambassador of Ireland to Great Britain visited Seatruck in Heysham last week.

The visit highlighted the future potential for growth between the two countries with Seatruck providing growing sea freight links.

Ambassador Mulhall became ambassador of Ireland to Great Britain in September 2013. Seatruck Ferries operate daily freight services to Dublin from Heysham and Liverpool and also a service from Heysham to Warrenpoint in Northern Ireland.

Peel Ports are focusing on strong roll on roll off freight growth from their hubs in Heysham and Liverpool.

A spokesman for the chamber said: “Chamber Ambassadors...proudly support and aid the district’s economy to thrive and prosper and they develop strong relationships and support the interests of other ambassadors and the Lancaster district chamber members.

Some of the key membership benefits are that ambassadors are guaranteed high levels of exposure through the Chamber website, premises and events”.
