A very disciplined and patient first half performance restricted Brighouse to very few clear cut chances, and those chances were superbly dealt with by the outstanding Katie McTague in goal.

Morecambe exploited the wide areas very effectively and created a number of chances themselves, and their patience and organisation paid off just before half time when Katherine Oldfield was quick to pounce in a goal mouth scramble from a corner to slot home.

Brighouse were out of the blocks quickly in the second half and in the 51st minute, Brighouse number eigh, Lauren Doyle, beat the offside trap to slot home and make it 1-1.

Brighouse had plenty of possession following the equaliser but rarely threatened a resolute Morecambe back line.

Morecambe still managed to create three clear cut chances to take the lead but failed to hit the target, and in the last minute Morecambe’s Yasmine Swarbrick broke through the Brighouse defence, only to have her shot superbly saved by the Brighouse keeper to deny Morecambe the victory.
