BREAKING NEWS: Body found in Morecambe Bay missing person search

A body has been found during a huge missing person search in the Morecambe Bay area.

It is thought the body is of the 62-year-old windsurfer who went missing yesterday, Sunday January 25.

He has been taken to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary by the North West Air Ambulance, accompanied by HM Coastguard, who said the matter is now with Lancashire Police.

The man, thought to be from the Cockerham area, was last seen while out in the water near Glasson Dock between 4.30pm and 5pm.

He had left the shore in a group but failed to return. Searches of the bay were carried out into the early hours of Monday.

Kevin Jackson, operations manager at Morecambe Lifeboats (RNLI), said conditions were “terrible”, on Sunday afternoon when the man went out as part of a group, and didn’t return.

The body of a man was found on the beach at Middleton Sands at around 11am on Monday, January 26.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: “We can confirm that officers searching for a missing wind surfer have this morning recovered a body on Middleton Sands.

“We are currently in the process of establishing formal identification.

“Police were called at around 4.45pm on Sunday 25 January to Glasson Dock, Lancaster, following reports of concern for the safety of a windsurfer.

“The local man, aged in his sixties, was last seen by friends in the sea at around 4.20pm but failed to come out of the water.

“A joint search operation was launched with the Coastguard, RNLI, Mountain Rescue Team and Police air support to search for the missing man.”
