A PLANNED Diamond Jubilee film show at the Winter Gardens may have to be scrapped after Morecambe Town Council refused to pay for it.

Filmmaker and Morecambe Bay tourism champion Chris Abram had his request for £2,200 funding turned down by the council’s finance committee.

Mr Abram wanted to show old footage of the Queen throughout her 60-year reign at a 90-minute free screening inside the old theatre to coincide with next summer’s celebrations.

But the committee did not believe the non-profit event would be value for taxpayers’ money.

Now Mr Abram, from Carnforth, says he may abandon any plans to run shows in Morecambe in future.
