Biker is injured in rush hour car smash

Calls flooded in to emergency services after an accident on White Lund Industrial Estate.

Police and ambulance were called to Northgate at 5.15pm on Monday after a bike and a car were involved in a collision.

Passers-by treated the biker, believed to be in his fifties, at the side of the road until the ambulance arrived at 6.25pm.

A spokesman for the North West Ambulance Service said: “We were flooded with calls at 5.19pm but there were no major injuries reported, just bumps and bruises.

“Our response is determined by what injuries the patient has.

“This was given a low priority response.

“The man was taken to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary for treatment.”

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: “We received a call at 5.25pm The man on the bike, in his fifties suffered a broken collarbone, which is classed as a serious injury.

“He was taken to hospital for treatment.

“The road was clear by 7.05pm.

“The driver of the Peugeot 206 involved in the collision will be reported for summons for driving without due care and attention.”

The accident, which caused a build-up of traffic, was the first incident which had occurred following the closure of part of the Heysham bypass for link road works.

The partial road closure is expected to last 76 weeks whilst work is undertaken by Costain.
