Owners Enterprise Inns will revamp the Pedder Street hostelry as one of its chain of Craft Union pubs.

Craft Union is advertising for a new manager for the Chieftain on its website.

Head chef Charles Carr, who is leaving the pub after 16 years to work at the Cumberland View on Heysham Road, said he’d been told the new Chieftain would become more like a sports bar with more TV screens, drinks promotions and a much smaller food menu.

A spokesman for Craft Union said: “Craft Union is very excited about the investment it’s made in what is a brilliant site, and is looking forward to making it a hub of real community value.

“We’re working closely with the team to reposition the whole offer, and help them make the most of the opportunity ahead.”

We asked the Craft Union spokesman how much the refurbishment would cost, if the new pub could be classed as a sports bar and what changes were planned, and when it would reopen.

He said they would provide more details closer to the reopening date.
