Beauty queens relived a special day in their lives at the Midland hotel...45 years on.
Twelve contestants from the 1968 Miss Great Britain contest met up for a reunion including dance teacher Sharman Robinson from Bolton-le-Sands.
Sharman, who co-owns the Robinson Read School of Dance, was 18 when she entered the pageant at the Super Swimming Stadium as the reigning Miss Morecambe.
It was particularly special for Sharman to return to the Midland, where the Miss Great Britain dinner was held in August 1968. Her son-in-law Eddie, daughter Karla and neice Lois all work there.
“I didn’t get through to the finals that day but I enjoyed the experience and it was a pleasure to represent Morecambe,” she said.
“I didn’t know what to expect from the reunion but it was an amazing day. The ladies were all so poised and beautifully turned out, 45 years later. It was a privilege to be there.”
The Midland organised the reunion after staff launched a nationwide search to find the contestants.
The guests were treated to drinks and an overnight stay at the hotel.
The Midland also recreated the 1968 dinner of cream of chicken soup, salmon and trifle.
Morecambe hosted the Miss Great Britain contest from 1956 to 1989.
