A sprightly couple in their 80s who still work part-time in the family furniture business are celebrating 60 years of marriage.
Ernest and Isobel Brown from Bare, were thrilled to receive a card from the Queen to mark their diamond wedding anniversary.
Originally from Workington, the couple met around 1949 and were married in 1955 at St Michael’s Church in Workington.
After leaving the army, Ernest worked in a furniture store and Isobel worked at the United Steel Company as a comptometer operator before calculators came into use.
The couple had two sons, Stephen and Paul.
In 1963, the couple moved to Lancaster and Ernest worked at Sharples Furnishers before setting up Browns Carpets on North Road in Lancaster.
The business expanded onto Edward Street in Morecambe, before its current location on Lines Street in Morecambe.
The couple have three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Ernest, 82 and Isobel, 80, both enjoy caravanning and gardening.
Ernest said: “We are compatible and do everything togather.”
The couple enjoyed a meal with family to celebrate their special anniversary.
