SIX people have been arrested after police sealed off a travellers’ caravan park off Mellishaw Lane following reports of a “large scale” fight on the site.

Officers were called to the park at around 11.30am on Tuesday after reports of a disturbance.

An eye-witness reported seeing a group of people - some wielding knives - pull up at the site in a car before police arrived.

Police surrounded the perimeter and carried out searches on the park believing that weapons may have been used during the fight.

Two men, aged 23 and 33, and three women aged 60, 43 and 22 have been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon. One man aged 23 was also arrested on suspicion of violent disorder. They are all from the Morecambe area. They all remain in custody being questioned by detectives.

There were no serious injuries during the incident.
