£5m upgrade plan for Lancaster sports centre
A ‘high ropes thrill tower’ is part of a blueprint to transform Salt Ayre Sports Centre over the next five years.
Plans also include a new BMX track, an expanded fitness suite, an upgrade to the reception area and cafe, a health and beauty spa, and a three-storey adventure play area covering half of the existing sports hall, suitable for adults and children.

The Somerset-based firm and the council will work in partnership to develop Salt Ayre if the council cabinet gives the go-ahead at a meeting on January 19 and then full council gives approval.
The company has been chosen by the council after a tender process.
The planned changes to Salt Ayre would be brought in over a five-year period and are just proposals at this stage. Other plans include a new computerised booking system, upgraded changing rooms and toilets, and new community meeting rooms.
The idea is to make Salt Ayre a premier sport and leisure facility in the North West.
