Appeal after man rescued from Morecambe Bay

Police are appealing for information after the man was found clinging to barrier rocks opposite Morecambe Town Hall. He was treated by paramedics before being taken to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary where he was unconscious but in a stable condition suffering from hypothermia and some cuts to his head and arms.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 7am on Thursday. It had not yet been established how the man came to be in the sea and they were appealing for information. He is described as a white man, 40 years of age, wearing a black coloured t-shirt, blue jeans and blue coat with a fur collar.

DI Phil Jones said: “He has sustained a wound to his head and arms that may be as a result of the current of the sea and hitting rocks or other means. If anyone saw a similarly described man in and around the sea wall area across from Morecambe Town Hall between 6-7am on Thursday I would urge them to please contact the police on 101 quoting log 0214.”
