A DRIVER who lost control of his car and crashed has died in hospital.

Police are appealing for information about the collision, which took place on the northbound carriageway of the M6 near Forton services on Monday at 11.15am.

Police said it would appear that the driver of a red Vauxhall Corsa had fallen ill at the wheel, causing him to lose control of his car which, after colliding with the central reservation, left the carriageway and came to rest on the grass verge.

No other vehicles are thought to be involved.

Officers from the Road Policing Unit are investigating the collision and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Sergeant Finn Quainton of the Road Policing Unit said: “I would like to appeal to anyone who may have been in the area at the time and either witnessed this collision, or who may have seen the red Vauxhall Corsa prior to the collision, to contact police with any information they may have.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Lancashire Police by calling the new non-emergency number, 101.
