Appeal after attempted robbery at Halton newsagents

A shop owner suffered serious knife injuries during an attempted robbery.

Police said a man entered Halton Village News on High Road in Halton shortly before 5.30am on Thursday December 10, when the shop owner was sorting out the newspaper delivery behind the counter.

The man, who was armed with a knife, approached him and demanded money.

The shop owner tried to take the knife from him and a struggle ensued.

The man fell to the floor before he fled the scene empty handed.

The victim, a 56-year -old man, sustained serious injuries to his hands, including tendon damage.

The would-be robber is described as white, 6ft tall and of a medium build. He spoke with a local accent and was wearing dark clothing with a light coloured scarf with dark patches covering his face.

DC Sam Johnson from Lancaster and Morecambe CID said: “This was a nasty incident which has left the victim with extensive injuries to his hands..

“We are particularly keen to trace the drivers of two vehicles that were seen in the area around the time of the offence as we believe they could have some valuable information that could help with our enquiries. The first is the driver of a dark coloured Mercedes that was seen parked up on Schoolhouse Lane before moving on to Skyelands Avenue just before the incident happened.

The second vehicle was a light coloured saloon with part registration WV10 which was also seen in the area.”
