Families have a chance to explore Morecambe’s heritage at an event this Saturday.

The day of local history-themed activities at the Morecambe Heritage centre on Marine Road Central is for secondary school pupils and their families.

Activities include:

Walking Tours – led by a Morecambe Heritage expert, Peter Wade, exploring the history of the town.

Seaside Sand Pictures – Courtesy of Lancashire Museums, hear stories from the history of a seaside town and take part in interactive activities.

Oral History Projects – Students can create their own oral history project by interviewing elderly local residents about their experience of life in Morecambe.

Building their Community – Contribute to a card replica of Morecambe by making and decorating a building from the local area which means something to you. All finished buildings will be brought together to form a replica of the town.

Next Stop Morecambe – See the Heritage centre’s current exhibition on the history of the Morecambe railway.

The event will be open from 11am to 4pm, starting with the first of two walking tours at 11am.

Families are welcome to drop in throughout the day.

The event is part of a new outreach initiative between the Morecambe Heritage group and Lancaster University.
