Symphony Orchestra to take over Lancaster University Hall

The walls of Lancaster University’s Great Hall will be ringing with the sound of more than 100 musicians when the huge Symphony Orchestra of the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) performs at Lancaster Arts on October 29.

The orchestra features the most talented young musicians in the North West, and will be directed by the eminent conductor, En Shao, who has earned his stripes as a great maestro with orchestras such as the China National Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra and BBC Philharmonic.

He will perform a programme of classical crowd-pleasers, including two evocative pieces by Debussy – La Mer and Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune – and the sensual Poem of Ecstasy by Scriabin.

The concert also features star RNCM student, David Gibson, in Ravel’s ravishing Piano Concerto in G.

Fiona Sinclair, director of the concerts, said: “The RNCM Symphony Orchestra are officially the largest orchestra we’ve had performing in Lancaster for at least a decade.

“There are over 100 performers taking part, and we are having to build an extension of the stage just to fit them in.

Tickets are priced £9-£19.75.
