Syd Little gets Supersonic with Paul Hayes Collection in Morecambe

Syd Little.
Syd Little.

In the 1970s and ‘80s comedy double acts such as The Two Ronnies, Cannon and Ball, and of course Morecambe and Wise ruled the television.

But whatever happened to that other great comic duo of yesteryear, Little and Large?

Eddie Large sadly retired from showbiz quite a few years ago for health reasons but his former partner Syd Little is still going strong.

And now the man known as ‘Supersonic’ is returning to Morecambe.

Now 71 years young, Syd is still in demand as a singer and stand up comedian.

He’s also friends with Morecambe’s celebrity rock ‘n’ rollers The Paul Hayes Collection and will be doing a show with them at the Strathmore Hotel in Morecambe on the night of Friday, October 10.

Born Cyril Mead, the Blackpudlian shot to fame as the mild-mannered straight man, the butt of Eddie Large’s jokes as the Little and Large show ran on BBC1 for 14 years.

Nowadays Syd runs the Little resturant in the Strawberry Gardens pub in Fleetwood, where he lives.

Recently he did a gig there with The Collection, a band fronted by Morecambe antiques dealer, rock ‘n’ roll singer and TV personality, Paul Hayes.

They had first met in 2011 when Syd appeared on a celebrity version of Paul’s daytime show Cash in the Attic.

“He lives next door to a holiday camp where we perform in Fleetwood,” said ‘Golly’ Goulding, guitarist with The Paul Hayes Collection.

“He came to see us one night when we were playing and he got up and did a number. I asked if he was still
available for bookings as a solo act and he said yes. He’s a really nice guy. He does a bit of rock ‘n’ roll and skiffle, and of course his comedy.”

Syd last appeared in Morecambe in 2004, accompanying Cannon and Ball for a comedy and gospel show at The Dome.

The Paul Hayes Collection, made up of front man Paul (who is currently filming a new series of his other daytime TV hit ‘Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is’), ‘Golly’, Garry Pugh and Rod Cairns, have established themselves as a top vintage rock ‘n’ roll act on the pub and club scene all over the North West and beyond.

Tickets for the ‘Syd Little Rock ‘n’ Roll Laughter Show’ at the Strathmore are selling well. They cost £14 and include a hot supper. For enquiries call ‘Golly’ Goulding on 01524 850757/07736979483 or email
