The above photograph comes from season 1961 to 1962, the inaugural season of the Morecambe and Lancaster Sunday League, and shows the Visitor team that was comprised mainly of staff from the newspaper.

The league secretary at this time was well-known local referee Colin Henderson who was always an enthusiastic football supporter in whatever guise.

Ken Ormrod who features in both photographs was a great servant to grassroots football in this area as well as performing miracles at Morecambe Football Club alongside Harry Baines. In June 1972 he became Secretary of Morecambe Football Club and so resigned his position with the Sunday League.

At a meeting of Morecambe Football Club on November 5 1977 only four Directors remained so Ken and three other people were co-opted onto the Board of Directors with an agreement to purchase £1,000 of shares during the remainder of the season otherwise the club would be wound-up but the new Board of Directors kept the club going.

However, in August 1999 he sadly had to resign his position at the Football Club due to illness. In 2002 he received a letter from Morecambe Football Club inviting him to become a Life Vice-President, a position he was honoured to accept.
