Lancaster is winging its way to cells for Halloween

Lancaster Castle will be taken over as the former prison is transformed into a jaw-dropping dance floor over Halloween.

Among the artists entertaining audiences will be Camo & Krooked, S.P.Y, Krakota and Lancaster boys Bondax, whose career has rocketed since they originally attracted interest through the BBC.

Adam Kaye and George Townsend eventually got airtime on BBC Radio 1 from DJs Annie Mac and Nick Grimshaw.

Despite the fact that Adam and George are still young, their music shimmers with maturity and sophistication.

Bondax’s evocative music drifts between urban sonic landscapes, incorporating elements of post-dubstep, R&B, and garage, the guys craft an intimate, electronic sound.

Owned by the Duchy of Lancaster, the castle and prison sets the scene for A-Wing on Friday October 30 and Saturday October 31.

Hailing from Sao Paolo, S.P.Y chatted to the Lancaster Guardian ahead of his performance on Friday. Carlos Lima, the man behind S.P.Y made the move to London over 11 years ago.

Alternating between beautiful, orchestral, musical sets and dark, rolling mixes, he is also hugely respected for his productions and remixes, often hailed as the producer’s producer.

Carlos said: “It is my first time at A-Wing and Lancaster so I am really excited, I have heard great things about the venue.

“It is nice people are so accepting. To break through this industry is really tough, it took me about five years.

“The challenge is you can’t make a living in music unless you get a break, I am lucky people enjoy what I do.

“I was a graphic designer back in Brazil but I just wasn’t passionate or enjoying it so I finally got the courage to move over here.

“I had to go to work as a cleaner, I always had to do some sort of job to make money to support myself until Pete Tong’s set on BBC Radio 1. That was a big thing for me because I never really expected to have such an offer, I was so overwhelmed.”

Previous A-Wing guests include Pete Tong, Metrik, Derrick Carter, Rob Da Bank, James Zabiela, Carl Craig, The 2 Bears, Graeme Park, Mike Pickering and Dimitri from Paris, in a setting unlike anything else.

Tickets for the show on October 31 have sold out but there are some left for the Friday performance.
