Lancashire author publishes debut novel

‘The Greater Glory’ has been five years in the making for Andrew, working around a full-time job, and reflects his passion for history.

Meticulously researched and rich in local detail, the book is set during the years leading up to and following the Spanish Armada.

It tells the story of Thomas Rufford, a Catholic and the eldest son in a recusant Lancashire family.

With his younger brother, a Jesuit priest hunted by 
the authorities, Thomas 
embarks on a perilous journey across England in an attempt to defend his faith.

As he encounters sinister priest-hunters and secret hiding places, potential traitors and the depths of the Tower of London, he is forced to question his loyalty to his religion and his country.

Bolton-born Andrew said: “It was after reading several books about life in Elizabethan England that I got the seed of an idea to write my first book.

“They were such exciting but dangerous times, particularly for recusants who refused to comply with 
Elizabeth’s law governing religion.

“I hope that anyone who is interested in history will enjoy reading the novel.

“It is a story of adventure, of heroism and bravery, about people battling against overwhelming odds to uphold what they believe in.”
