Alien Rage is a first person shooter style game by Unreal Technology, it comes with 17+ warning at the start of the game that warns of “blood, violence, and strong language”… these sorts of promises always get me excited. Unfortunately the aliens don’t bleed so much as spray puffs of what looks like luminous orange gas, but the language and the violence were there so I persevered.
You play a stereotypical futuristic infantry character called “Jack” – there’s no real background on him but he does introduce you to the story at the beginning. This works pretty well as it’s straight into the action.
You are accompanied by a virtual assistant who does all your computing-type stuff (hmmm… sounds familiar!) however unlike a similar character in another game she isn’t especially interesting or attractive and regularly makes mistakes.
Action is pretty much immediate, and the controls are very similar to the games that obviously inspired the builders of this one. I have to admit that I struggled with the sensitivity of the controls – whilst your character moves in turbo mode the target acquisition is very slow, and no amount of adjusting the options makes up for the disparity between the two. Eventually though you get used to it, and the battles you have with the various types of Vorus enemies become very good fun.
passable story and works well with the fast pace of this game, Game Play flows well, but the let-downs are the slight lack of character development, odd control configuration, and shockingly poor depictions of alien blood, passable story and works well with the fast pace of this game.
