Freek is one of 100 UK bands vying to be picked to record a single to take on Simon Cowell’s X Factor winner in the Christmas 2012 UK charts.

The trio – Mike Banks, Melissa Eagleton and Charlie Burns – have been gigging solidly up and down the country learning their craft and have a real following in Liverpool, where they are regulars at the Studio 2 venue.

The winners of the Band Crusade competition will get a recording contract.

“Freek can’t afford a video like some of the bands involved but have done a remarkable job getting selected,” said Geoff Banks, manager of the band and Mike’s dad.

“They are the youngest band in the competition, they are the only band from the Lancaster and Morecambe area in this and work really hard every week gigging, flying the flag for the talented bands that Lancaster has on its door s tep.

“This competition means that there is a real possibility for a young band from Lancaster or Morecambe to be contending for number one in the single charts this Christmas.

“If the whole community got behind them, that would be so cool.”

If you want to catch Freek, they will also be performing at the Yorkshire House in Lancaster on September
