Morecambe Kidz charity offers toyz for children and young people

Unique Kidz and Co in Morecambe are delighted to announce that BBC Children in Need has awarded them a grant of £68,750, part of which is funding the charity’s first ever toy library.

Unique Toyz, the toy library which opened on Monday February 1, is open to all children and young people age 18 and under in the Lancaster,

Morecambe and wider area who have disabilities and additional needs.

The toy library, managed by Sarah Roskell, contains a vast range of toys and aids that families can borrow for their child’s benefit.

Items can be borrowed in two week slots and will be delivered and collected safely from doorsteps with a full Covid-secure cleaning regime in place.

It is free to join and members do not need to use Unique Kidz and Co’s other services to be able to access it.

The funding came from part of BBC Children in Needs Covid-19 Next Steps grant programme which supports organisations’ longer-term service

adaptation to respond to the Covid-19 crisis to meet the needs of children and young people who have been disproportionately affected by the crisis.

The funding is also supporting Unique Kidz and Co.’s new online and at home services to reach families at home which include video resources,

virtual sessions and play packs.

Jordan Halpin, head of fundraising and senior manager, said: “We are over the moon to be able to provide these essential services which will

make such a huge difference to the disabled young people that we support, many of which are extremely vulnerable and having to stay at

home making them miss out on critical socialising opportunities.”

Denise Armer, co-Founder and trustee, said: “Myself and Jane (the other co-founder) have always dreamt of opening our own toy library as, through being parents ourselves, we know the huge difference it can make to be able to access specialist toys.”
