After a decade being at the heart of the fitness community, Sean Thornton and his team’s health club is celebrating a milestone.

He created the fitness space to be about more than just sport – it’s a hub for friends, for those wanting to exercise while seeking a circle of support too, for those hoping to smash a fitness goal, and for people who feel a cuppa with a chum after a high-energy class is the perfect life balance.

Throughout May there will be a series of events to mark the anniversary. On Sunday, May 21st, there’s the family fun day, with a family beach themed pool party, membership offers, taster sessions, inflatables, giant games and a barbecue. And on Wednesday, May 24, there’s the birthday itself, with more fun events at the open day.

Real people, real stories

3-1-5 has been positively changing people’s lives over 10 years, from the young to the young at heart, complete beginner to accomplished athlete. Here are a few memories members have shared their best moments.

“My time in the Academy, where Big Lee showed me how to get the best out of X-Force and my first time at a 3-1-5 ‘Ball’. It was a cracking night and finally, the London to Paris charity bike ride, what we didn’t do isn’t worth talking about!” – David Chalmers

“Working in the café when it first opened, meeting some amazing friends.” – Jayne Campbell

Testimonials

Jason Smith said: “Wow.... A breathe of fresh air when it comes to gyms/fitness/wellbeing venues. Very welcoming with proper induction and full body scan, so you can see progress, and not just in the mirror. Lots of equipment including innovative 3-1-5 X Force machines giving you the "Double the workout in half the time". Great pool, steam rooms, sauna's and hydrotherapy facilities too.”

Zoe Johnson wrote: “Favourite health club I've ever been to! All the staff are SO friendly and welcoming, especially Iwa and Hannah . Love the Hydrotherapy pool, after a serious back injury lasting 3mths, I started going to 315 Hydro and recovered in weeks. Also large pool separated into lanes so no swimming around people! The Gym is really calm and so much equipment it never feels cramped. Sandie my fave PT is exceptional re Body and back advice. Physiotherapy, hair salon, beauty salon, cafe, lounge area to work on laptop, state of the art changing rooms, hairdryers, straighteners - it's such a nice place to visit.”

Melanie Sweatman: “This is a testament to Lydia. I attend Body Pump and Legs, Bums and Tums. She is an excellent instructor and offers alternative exercises if you are struggling. Lydia is very professional, she is motivated and enthusiastic. Again 3-1-5 have set out to employ some great instructors. Well done and thanks again!”

And one ‘young-at-heart’ member – the classes dedicated to older people – added: “We love 3-1-5 as everyone fits in and we have fun. The classes give me co-ordination and make my daily activities much easier.”

Fitness at its heart

X-force fitness programmes bring an added dimension to the health club, and feedback from members over the years has been positive, including: “I found the program to be very motivating and felt I was making progress with a trainer to guide me, and this was perfect as a beginner.

“I am really enjoying it so far, feeling much more motivated, never really pushed myself in the gym, but loving the motivation I now have. I would recommend this to others, and I'm so happy with the results.

“My strength gains have gone up a lot in a short space of time, I have found the program to be very good so far; I’ve enjoyed being challenged.”

Warm welcome

Owner and founder Sean Thornton added: “We’ve loved every moment of the last 10 years and are proud to have made a difference. We hope all members past and present, and anyone who thinks our family is the right fit for them, will join us at our birthday events. Here’s looking forward to another impactful 10 years inspiring more people and changing more lives in the community.”
