Thumbs up for Porsche car centre in Carnforth

A world-famous car manufacturer will soon build a base in Carnforth after plans were approved.

Proposals for a new Porsche Centre on land near Carnforth were given the green light by Lancaster City Council.

The site between junction 35 of the M6 and Kellet Road will include a showroom workshop and MOT testing facility, together with a new access off the A601.

“To see such a huge investment in Carnforth from a massive company like Porsche is fantastic,” said Coun John Reynolds, who represents Carnforth and Millhead Ward.

“It’s a positive step for the future of Carnforth, it will attract jobs and also provide investment.

“The piece of land where the site will be has been left derelict for some time now so it’s great to see it finally being used.”

Over Kellet Parish Council expressed an objection, stating in the application; that the land is adjacent to the Kellet Road Verges, it should be safeguarded for agricultural purposes, plans would increase traffic congestion and there are already alternative sites available.

Plans would facilitate the relocation and expansion of Porsche franchisee Parker and Parker’s current Porsche Centre located at Longpool, Kendal.

“We grew out of our existing premises in Kendal some time ago and have been looking for a new site ever since,” said a spokesman from Parker and Parker.

“As soon as the site on the outskirts of Carnforth was mentioned to us it was clear that it would be a superb location.” Alistair Eagles, president of Lancaster & District Chamber of Commerce said: “Great things are happening in North Lancashire, the opening of The Bay Gateway was just the start. It is a great testament to the areas growing reputation that we are able to attract such a prestigious brand to the district.”
