A group of pedal pushing pupils got top marks in a national road safety test. Youngsters from Catforth County Primary School, near Preston, rode to a silver trophy for notching up the minimum number of faults in the national Cycling Proficiency Scheme Test. The Coun Jack Heatley Cycling Trophy was handed to the children at a special ceremony in the school by Coun Heatley himself

These young Einsteins proved their genius in a nationwide science scheme. The children from Walton-le-Dale High School, near Preston, gave up their dinner time breaks to work in the school's laboratory. And their hard work paid off when they all won bronze awards in a new national young boffins programme being run by the British Association for the Advancement of Science
