Young guides and brownies of Preston made light work of a marathon bulb planting project. They braved cold winds to plant more than 5,000 crocus bulbs at the entrance to the Threefields estate, Ingol. The sponsored plant-in was to help raise cash for the Harriet Trust. A Chorley dancing school presented an adaptation of Thackeray's The Rose and The Ring at Albany High School. The magical fairy tale, told with a blend of acting, singing and dancing, was put together by a cast of about 90 youngsters, from aged three to 19
