Three further coronavirus deaths announced within Morecambe Bay hospitals trust

Three further deaths from coronavirus have been announced at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust.

The way deaths are announced nationally has now changed, and as a result only trust-wide figures are being released by NHS England.

The trust includes the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Westmorland General Hospital and Furness General Hospital.

The latest announcement brings the total in its facilities to 62.

That is an increase of 22 per cent compared to the 51 that had been recorded at the same point on Friday.

As of Friday, 18 people were known to have died at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary who have tested positive for Covid-19.

In the most recent update, Lancashire's total number of confirmed cases has reached 855.

That includes 726 cases in the region controlled by Lancashire County Council - the highest number for any area across the north west.

Throughout the UK, a further 621 people with coronavirus have died, the Department for Health and Social Care announced on Sunday, bringing the national death toll to 4,934.
