Entitled the Month of Love, the auction is being run by CancerCare and aims to raise £10,000 to help the charity support local people affected by cancer and bereavement during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The auction will take place online throughout February and people are being invited to place silent bids on a wide range of unique items and experiences including spa weekend at luxury hotel, original artwork and a tour round the Lake District in a classic MGA sports car.

The ongoing pandemic restrictions have forced the cancellation of many of the charity’s mass-participation events so the auction will be one of a number of “virtual” campaigns taking place throughout 2021 to raise money and awareness of the work it does helping the community.

Organiser Kat Michaels said: “We can’t thank the local business community enough for the fantastic items they have donated for our auction. There really is something for everyone from food and drink to fashion.”

The charity’s first ever virtual event, its annual Santa Dash, raised more than £14,000 in December and it is hoping the shift towards digital forms of fundraising will also help it reach more people across north Lancashire and south Cumbria in need of support.

“The lockdown has been particularly tough on the people we provide therapy for, many who have been isolated from support networks of family and friends, so we want to raise as much money as we can to provide the online and telephone support that has enabled us to support thousands of people in their homes since last March,” Kat added.”
