Four further coronavirus deaths announced within Morecambe Bay hospitals trust

Four further deaths from coronavirus were announced today at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust.

The way deaths are announced nationally has now changed, and as a result only trust-wide figures are being released by NHS England.

The trust includes the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Westmorland General Hospital and Furness General Hospital.

The latest announcement brings the total in its facilities to 75.

As of last Friday - the most recent date that individual hospital data was available - 18 people were known to have died at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary who have tested positive for Covid-19.

In the north west, latest figures show a total of 6,270 confirmed cases.

This is an increase of 534 cases since yesterday.

That includes 923 cases in the region controlled by Lancashire County Council - the highest number for any area across the north west.

The latest figures from Public Health England show that there are ​a total of 55,242 confirmed cases in the UK.

It means another 3,634 people have tested positive in the last 24 hours.

Since the outbreak began, a total of 6,159 deaths have been recorded nationwide.
