Sisters Nichola Wilson and Mandy Kneale will be doing a 'memory walk' later this month to raise awareness and funds for the Alzheimer's Society.

Their dad Michael Holmes, 82, has dementia and the pair hope to raise as much money as possible for the charity.

The walk takes place on September 20, and Nichola and Mandy hope both their parents, who live in Bare, will also be able to take part.

Nichola, who lives in Wray, said: "In October 2019 our father was diagnosed with frontal lobe dementia.

"Obviously this has had a devastating impact on dad and the family.

"I have organised a memory walk to walk with family from one end of Morecambe promenade to Heysham and back again, approximately 10 miles.

"Our father wants to join us, and this will be a huge challenge for him. Our mother Jeanette wishes to be part of it even though she has myeloma, a type of cancer, so we are thinking of hiring two wheelchairs for them, so that as they tire we can push them the rest of the way.

"We want to raise awareness of this cruel and devastating disease and to raise as much as we can.

"Statistics show in the future one in three people will suffer from some form of Alzheimer’s, a scary thought.

"All money raised is going to the Alzheimer’s Society to help fund research and to support sufferers of dementia and their families live in the community without fear or prejudice."

Nichola and Mandy have already raised more than £700 of their £950 target.
