Eight new coronavirus deaths announced within Morecambe Bay health trust

Eight further death from coronavirus was announced today at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust.

The way deaths are announced nationally has now changed, and as a result only trust-wide figures are being released by NHS England.

The trust includes the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal and Furness General Hospital in Barrow.

Eight were recorded today, Tuesday April 14, bringing the total across the trust to 110, after six new deaths were also recorded yesterday, Monday April 13.

As of Friday April 3 - the most recent date that individual hospital data was available - 18 people were known to have died at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary who have tested positive for Covid-19.

The new statistics include patients who died in hospital - but not other places, such as care homes.
