In total 342 people have been discharged home from hospitals across Morecambe Bay following treatment for coronavirus since the pandemic began, according to the trust on Monday.

Within the Lancaster City Council area, 65 people have died from Covid-19 up to May 22.

Of those, 42 were in hospital, 18 in care homes, three at home and two in a hospice.

The majority of people who contract the disease do not need hospital treatment.

The way deaths are announced nationally means only trust-wide figures are released by NHS England, and it now only includes data for a specific hospital trust on a daily basis if a death has been recorded.

As a result, many trusts did not appear on the list on June 3, meaning a significant number across England did not record any deaths on this day.

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay Trust includes the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal and Furness General Hospital in Barrow - although WGH is being kept as a Covid-free site.

There is a delay in reporting the figures which means that each death is not reported by the NHS on the following day. The statistics include patients who died in hospital - but not other places, such as care homes.
