New era for schools across Lancaster and Morecambe trust

The current chief executive, Liz Nicholls, is retiring in the summer after four years in post and 11 years as principal of Ripley St Thomas CE Academy.

The Bay Learning Trust was set up in 2016 by Ripley St Thomas and now includes Carnforth High School, Morecambe Bay Academy and Central Lancaster High School.

Sally is a qualified teacher and the deputy regional director for United Learning Trust, working across all secondary academies in the north of England.

She supports leaders and governors with school improvement, chairs a school improvement board and has specific responsibility for special educational needs in the trust.

Sally has worked with a number of multi-academy trusts during her time as a school improvement consultant. She is a former HMI and current lead Ofsted inspector. She was Ofsted’s national lead for citizenship education advising schools and working with the Department for Education.

Sally is a Lancastrian and is greatly looking forward to making a difference to the lives of young people in her native county.

She said “I am thrilled to have such a great opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of so many young people in our schools.”

Prof Crewdson, the chair of the trust, said “We are delighted to have made such a strong key appointment and are confident that our trust will thrive under Sally’s leadership.”
