Victoria Michael arrived at Morecambe Bay Academy in 2018 from Carnforth High, after the school - then Morecambe High School - was rated inadequate by Ofsted.

She replaced Matt Auger, who went on to be Head of History at Carnforth High. He now works as Director of School Improvements for The Bay Learning Trust.

The Dallam Avenue school, which has 1,380 pupils, became an academy in April 2019 when it joined The Bay Learning Trust, a multi-academy trust which includes Ripley St Thomas CE Academy and Central Lancaster High School in Lancaster and Carnforth High School.

Morecambe Bay Academy staff were told on Wednesday that Mrs Michael had left, and a letter was sent out to parents. It is understood no reason was given for her sudden departure.

A spokesman for The Bay learning Trust said: "The Bay Learning Trust can confirm that Mrs Michael has left Morecambe Bay Academy to pursue other opportunities. We thank her for her work and wish her well in the future."

Mrs Heather McClurg and Mr John Cowper will be acting co-principals following Mrs Michael's departure.
