Demolition work paves way for development at vital Morecambe charity

The centre started life as a care home for young physically disabled, under the name of Primrose House Trust.

Once the new neurological centre was built and the care home abandoned, the holistic centre developed; providing a range of alternative and complementary therapies.

Under the guidance of the late Diane Grainger, the centre flourished providing a small retail shop and café.

A Breath for Life bought the premises in 2019 with an eye to future development.

The charity facility in Middleton provides hyperbaric oxygen therapy for a multiplicity of neurological disorders, from babies suffering a depletion of oxygen at birth, to older adults with cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis or traumatic head injury. In spite of limited space, their reputation has brought in children and adults from all over the UK and Europe. Their planned expansion, to include indoor toilet facilities, is a dream in the making.

Charity chairman Jane Dean said: “We need the people of Lancaster and Morecambe to adopt this project; without their continued support, we cannot move forward.

"Our thanks to Joel Pinnington at J.M.P.Architects for his expertise and sound advice, George Wilson, solicitor at Harrison Drury, and finally to Tim Butler whose men managed to demolish the old holistic centre with minimal disruption to the adjacent charity.”

Those who live in Middleton or own bungalows on Middleton Road will be all too aware of regular road flooding, and, prior to any future development, the charity's trustees are actively engaged in addressing the poor drainage of surface water around their building, and are trying to track down the owners of the land behind their building in Borrans Lane.
