McDonald’s begins walk-in customer trial today - these are the changes you need to know about

The group is expected to open 11 restaurants in Roadchef service stations for takeaway and click-and-collect orders, which, if successful will be rolled out gradually to high streets, towns and city centre sites from June 24.

However, customers won't be able to eat in just yet, with seating areas, toilets and lifts remaining closed, and strict safety measures in place.

These are the changes you can expect:

The number of customers allowed into restaurants will be limited, with the fast food chain recommending that only one person collects food orders to keep customer numbers to a minimum.

One way systems will also be in operation to ensure social distancing, and hand-sanitising stations will be available for customers while inside the restaurants.

Customers will be able to place orders via the touch screens (cleaned every 30 minutes) and via the McDonald's app to place orders in advance.

McDonald’s staff will use face coverings and gloves, while Perspex screens have also been installed at service areas, kitchens and at drive-thru windows.

Staff will have their temperatures checked every day, surfaces and equipment will be cleaned regularly, and staff will be expected to wash their hands at least every 30 minutes.

McDonald's will continue to offer a limited menu, and are asking customer to pay with contactless.

Orders will remain capped at £25, and restaurants will continue run reduced hours from 11am and 10pm.

When will McDonald's breakfasts be back on the menu?

Unfortunately, McDonald's breakfast fans will be left disappointed, as breakfast items remain currently unavailable.

McDonald’s is expected to bring back McMuffins, bagels and hash browns on its breakfast menu on June 24, though only in a limited number of restaurants initially.
