A CELEBRATION of the most famous record label in the world returns to Morecambe this weekend.
Motown Magic pays tribute to the Detroit brand that brought Diana Ross, The Jackson Five, Stevie Wonder and many more to the music world. Live acts and DJs will perform and play some of the greatest hits of soul music, starting with Northern Soul DJ sessions at the York Hotel this Friday (August 10), from 8pm to midnight.
Morecambe promenade’s Crown Hotel will then play host to a night of the best Philadelphia soul and disco music this Saturday (August 11), from 8pm to midnight.
And then the outdoor stage outside the Platform (weather permitting) will be the place to be on Sunday afternoon (August 12), from noon to 5pm.
The bill is perennial Motown Magic favourite Diane Shaw, Marvin Gaye tribute Robbie Pollards and The Funky Stuff Band playing the best of Earth, Wind and Fire.
Motown Magic closes on Sunday night (August 12), at Smokey O’Connor’s pub, from 8pm to midnight, with a celebration of one of Morecambe’s meccas of soul music, the dearly departed Dixieland Bar at the Winter Gardens.
DJ Steve Middlesbrough will evoke memories of the place where, as a young up-and-coming DJ, he played Float On by The Floaters, as the torrential storms of 1977 ravaged the promenade!
Other DJs over the weekend will include Phil Hayward and Tony Crookes.
All events at Motown Magic are free, including Thursday night’s launch event at Dotty’s Vintage on Marine Road West.
