MORECAMBE will return to a halcyon era of buckets and spades, sandcastles, donkey rides, candy striped deck chairs, ice creams and Knickerbocker Glories.

That’s because the town’s award winning Sandcastle Festival is back this Saturday (August 6) and Sunday (August 7) celebrating the simple pleasures of the seaside beaches of our beautiful resort - and it’s all free!

A huge number of seaside-themed events and activities have been arranged by organisers Lancaster City Council.

The piece de resistance is the annual sandcastle building competition.

This starts at 11am on the Sunday. Teams can comprise up to four members and there are two categories - families/under 12s and an open category.

The winning teams from each category will win a cash prize of £75 with lots of prizes for the runners up.

Registration takes place on the Sunday morning between 9.30am and 10.45am. But you’ll have to be quick – places are limited and allocated on a first come, first served basis.
