The Red Arrows will not be returning to Morecambe in 2013.
The in-demand display team, which helped draw 25,000 people to the town’s Seaside Festival last year, are unavailable for this year’s event due to another booking.
But this year’s Seaside Festival will still feature an aerial display over the Bay, this time by a bi plane stunt team, along with a ‘Covent Garden’ style programme of street theatre, a food and craft village and a fireworks display from the Stone Jetty.
The Seaside Festival, which many have compared to Morecambe’s fondly-remembered ‘Festival of Light and Water’ from the 1990s and 2000s, will be held on Saturday, August 31 and Sunday, September 1.
The event will be jointly-funded by Lancaster City Council and Morecambe Town Council.
Coun David Kerr, chair of Morecambe town council, said: “Year on year, the Seaside Festival programme grows stronger. It clearly demonstrates how, by working in partnership, we can make something very special happen in Morecambe.”
