Big things at Morecambe's North Lancs Soul Festival

Jason Mills, festival director, said: “We are introducing two more new venues this year. Firstly, the two storey Boardwalk bar will be joining us, reverberating not only to soul music but also to reggae, ska and mod music from the 1960s.

“The Morecambe Winter Gardens is also being added to the festival and will host an amazing night of Northern and Motown Soul capitalising on the recently restored ballroom floor.”

Featuring more than 40 specialist soul music DJs from all over the UK, this weekend event starts on Friday May 20 and runs through until Sunday May 22.

As well as the new venues others will include Smokey O’Connors ‘Temple Of Soul’ (home of the past three festivals), The Platform and the Rotunda Bar Terrace at the Midland Hotel.

The daytime elements on Friday, Saturday and Sunday will remain free to attend but there is an admission charge of £5 for Friday night and £8 per event on Saturday night.

Jason said: “Previously the festival has been a free event but this year, to enable us to control the numbers and to help in covering the costs of staging the event, it has been necessary to introduce a door charge for the venues on Friday and Saturday night.”
