A NEW business with the emphasis on locally produced food has opened in North Lancashire.
Greenlands Farm Village at Tewitfields near Carnforth, opened on March 28, turning one man's 20 year vision into reality.
The visitor attraction has a fabulous wine shop called 'Wine Time', a farm shop full of delicious produce from across Lancashire and South Cumbria, 'Wellies' cafe where mouth-watering food is served, an 'open farm' area, plant centre, a pottery, a giant play barn for children and much more.
Farmer, Roger Mason, has become increasingly aware that children in particular, no longer relate the food that they eat to its origins.
Roger explains: "You could say that Greenlands is ultimately about the food cycle.
"The whole journey is here from growing the crops that nourish the animals that replenish the shop which supplies the cafe. Roger has even thought through the final part of the journey to ensure that (putting it nicely) the food that leaves the human digestive system via the greywater loos goes out to the natural reedbed sewage system which sees the nutrients recycled back into the land. Of course Greenlands isn't big enough to supply all of the produce that is needed on site, but by working in partnership with other local farms and food producers it will bring the best of what is local to the public and highlight just what modern farming is all about and the challenges that it faces."
With a new team of more than 50 people, Greenlands Farm Village is raring to make the most of what should be a booming season for North West Tourism.
