MORECAMBE'S motto, 'Beauty Surrounds, Health Abounds', has encouraged countless people to visit the town over the years. Now The Midland Spa, in the town's most famous hotel, is drawing visitors from across the country as well as the local area. Visitor new editor INGRID KENT visits The Midland Spa and finds out why it's doing so well, despite the recession.
WITH the thumbs-up from famous hotel guests such as Monty Python star and TV presenter, Michael Palin, Morecambe's Midland Spa is a real success story.
The spa first opened its doors to the public last June when The Midland Hotel re-opened after extensive refurbishment by Urban Splash.
Since then The Midland Spa has been building up a loyal customer base and people travel from all over the UK to spend entire days enjoying luxurious treatments.
Spa owners, Jane and Shaun Whatmuff, are delighted with the support that it has received. Like many other beauty establishments in the Morecambe and Lancaster area, Jane says men and women are still treating themselves, despite the 'credit crunch' and the recession.
People are using treatments at spas and salons as a way of cheering themselves up and escaping from the doom and gloom about Britain's economic woes. They may have cut out other luxuries, but beauty and relaxation treatments are as popular as ever - at The Midland Spa, at least.
