Sammy McIlroy was hopeful of finally completing the signing of Mark Duffy from Southport on Thursday.
The Morecambe manager told The Visitor's Steven Hewitt that there had been progress on a move for the winger on Wednesday evening and a loan deal could be done in time for Saturday's trip to Aldershot.
Rene Howe is available after returning from a hamstring injury at Rochdale on Tuesday while Fraser McLachlan is also nearing a return with Tuesday's trip to Grimsby more likely for him.
