JOHN McGuinness goes into the first round of the British Supersport Championship at Brands Hatch this weekend believing he can win the title.
The Morecambe racer may be 35 now but he has a renewed enthusiasm for track racing this season following a strong finish to the 2007 campaign, which took him to sixth overall.

And there is no reason, McGuinness said at the Honda team launch last month, why he can't top the podium this season.

He said: "Last year, I got put into the Padgett's team and it was the best thing that happened to me.

"In the last two races I was only two seconds off winning the race and two seconds over 35 minutes of racing is not a lot.

"If I can carry that on, I believe I can win the championship, people may laugh but I believe I can.

"I feel as strong as I have ever done and when you feel good, why not race? If there comes a time when I am just making the numbers up then I will step aside for someone else."
